PolarStar Hop Up Thing

Bet you can’t guess what this Thing is for. It’s a hop up, or a paperweight, or maybe a very expensive fidget spinner, but we’re pretty sure it’s a hop up. Actually, it's a 6061 T6 Aircraft Aluminum hop up. We know, "Aircraft Grade" is the favorite buzzword of every airsoft company trying to make a $15 part sound like it belongs on a SpaceX rocket. But we actually machine these Things in-house at PolarStar to +/- 0.002" tolerances because we’re tired of seeing high-end builds ruined by sloppy, off-spec cast parts. They used this stuff for wing spars and fuselage skins, and now you’re using it for your hop up. It’s probably overkill, but "overkill" is basically our middle name.

Look, we could play the industry game and trademark some stupid marketing words or pay a YouTuber to tell you this Thing will magically double your range while they shill you a generic flashlight. PolarStar don’t play that. We designed this with a zero-BS focus on the stuff that actually matters: consistency, fitment, and air-seal. No fluff, no "proprietary magic," just a straight-forward, precision-engineered tool that does exactly what it’s supposed to do every time you pull the trigger.

The heart of this Thing is our TDC (Top Dead Center) slider system. Unlike the old-school sliders that shift if you sneeze on them, our TDC arm applies perfectly vertical pressure for a consistent flight path.

We’ve modularized the design so you can actually tune the fitment for both AEG and HPA builds. While we have some serious upgrades in the works—like interchangeable gearbox lips to kill "mid-cap syndrome" and barrel slot wing bushings to eliminate rotational wobble—those will be available for purchase down the line as optional accessories. For now, we've focused on the core essentials. If your hop up is snug and your nozzle is centered, your gun shoots straight. It’s not rocket science; it’s just good engineering.

SPECS:

  • Compatibility: Standard V2 M4/M16 models (AEG and HPA)
  • Material: 100% Machined 6061 Aluminum
  • Adjustment: TDC Slider System (3x4mm nub compatible)
  • Color: Batch 01 - Medical Metal Gray
  • Manufacturing: Made in the USA

WHAT’S IN THE BOX?

The hop up Thing and the parts to make it work. We’ve included a 0.305” gearbox lip (standard for most AEGs), a 3x4mm round nub, and even an ARO (Axel Retaining O-ring) Tool because we know installing those tiny 1x1mm O-rings is a pain in the ass without the right gear. We also threw in 5 shimming O-rings and a molded barrel clip to keep everything tight.

good build

i have a tried out the unit. i like the overall build of it but have had a issue with the bucking lips on 2 buckings so far so i am currently testing to see which bucking fit the best so far it hasnt passed to simple drop test. any recommendations?

Bucking issues

I had bucking issues with this hop up. Always do drop test. I had issue with mapleleaf Mr hop. Lip is tad protruding and fail drop test. You need to trim the lip until it pass drop test then you are good to go. I’m using this hop up chamber paired with polarstar F2 now shots laser!

Not Earth shattering

The 2 teeny tiny o-rings that go on the pin that holds the hop arm are tedious to put on. The build quality is on par with other top tier hop up units, ie Maxx and Silent Industries. It seems super durable, don't see how you'd ever break or deform it without being deliberate about it. Performance is as expected. Nothing mind blowing. I get better performance from Lancers new Kinetic hop unit at a fraction of the cost. Unlikely that i would purchase another hop Thing.

Absolutely stunning build and machining of the hop unit

Absolutely stunning build and machining of the hop unit. The tolerances seem to be much better then a max hop unit. One suggestion for the future would be interchangeable inserts for different gearboxs and and nozzle guides so that it will always center on the gearbox and nozzles.
